Power steering repairs in Burleigh Heads.

Allcoast diagnoses and repairs power steering faults at its Burleigh Heads workshop, from fluid leaks and whining pumps to heavy or inconsistent steering. The aim is to find the cause first, then recommend a repair, a component rebuild or a replacement based on what the inspection shows.

What power steering repairs cover

Steering leak repairs
Tracing where fluid is escaping, whether that is a hose, a fitting, the pump or the seals inside the rack or box, then repairing the source rather than topping up and hoping.
Steering noise diagnosis
Working out why the steering whines, groans or knocks. Low fluid, air in the system, a worn pump, a restricted hose, a slipping belt or wear in the steering gear can all sound similar.
Heavy or inconsistent assistance
Checking the hydraulic or electric assistance, the drive belt where fitted, fluid condition and the steering gear itself when the wheel feels heavy, notchy or changes from one moment to the next.
Repairs and component rebuilds
Once the cause is clear, the workshop can carry out the repair or rebuild the affected rack, box, pump or hose on site at the workshop, where the component is suitable.

Signs it is worth booking an inspection

Each of these can have more than one cause, so an inspection is the way to know what your vehicle needs.

  • Red, pink, clear or brown fluid under the front of the vehicle
  • The power steering reservoir needing regular top-ups
  • Whining or groaning when you turn the wheel, especially at low speed
  • Steering that feels heavy, stiff or notchy when parking
  • Assistance that comes and goes
  • A clunk or knock through the steering wheel over bumps

If the steering suddenly becomes heavy, unresponsive or unpredictable, pull over when it is safe, stop driving and call for assistance rather than continuing the trip.

What the workshop can assess

A steering inspection looks at the whole system, because a symptom in one place often starts somewhere else.

  • Fluid level, condition and contamination
  • Hoses, fittings and clamps for leaks, swelling or chafing
  • Pump operation, noise and drive belt condition
  • Rack or box seals, boots and mounting
  • Tie rod ends and related front-end components
  • Electric assistance faults and warning lights, on vehicles with electric steering

Repair, rebuild or replace?

Whether a component can be repaired or rebuilt depends on what the inspection finds: wear inside the housing, damage to sealing surfaces and the availability of parts all decide it. If a rebuild is not the right answer for your component, the workshop will explain why and talk you through the alternatives before any work goes ahead.

Power steering repairs: common questions

Something else? Contact the workshop

Can I keep driving with a power steering leak?

A small leak can get worse quickly, and running the system low on fluid can damage the pump. If the steering becomes heavy, noisy or unpredictable, stop driving when it is safe and call the workshop for advice rather than risking the drive.

Why does my steering whine when I turn?

Common causes include low or aerated fluid, a worn pump, a restricted hose or a slipping belt. Because several faults sound alike, the workshop checks the system before recommending a repair.

Do you work on electric power steering too?

Yes. Electric power steering diagnosis and repairs are covered on the electric power steering page.

Will I know the cost before work starts?

The workshop will discuss the findings and the work required with you. Pricing depends on the vehicle and what the inspection finds, so ask when you are contacted to confirm your booking.
