Power steering pump rebuilds and hose repairs.
Allcoast rebuilds power steering pumps and repairs or rebuilds both high-pressure and low-pressure steering hoses at its Burleigh Heads workshop. The pump and hoses are inspected alongside the rest of the system, so a noisy pump or a leaking line is fixed at the source.
Or enquire about a pump or hose by form
Pumps and hoses, explained simply
- Steering pump rebuilds
- In a hydraulic system the pump pressurises the fluid that gives you steering assistance. Worn internals, failing seals or bearing noise can often be addressed by a rebuild, where the pump's condition allows.
- High-pressure hose repairs
- The high-pressure hose carries fluid from the pump to the rack or box. It works under significant pressure, so leaks, swelling or damaged fittings need attention.
- Low-pressure hose repairs
- Low-pressure return hoses carry fluid back to the reservoir. They can perish, crack or leak at clamps, letting fluid out and air in.
- Hose rebuilds
- Where a hose suits it, the workshop can rebuild the assembly rather than sourcing a complete new one. Whether that is possible depends on the hose and its fittings.
Signs of a pump or hose problem
Pump and hose faults often look and sound like other steering problems, so the whole system is checked.
- Whining that rises with engine speed or when turning
- Fluid on hoses, fittings or the front of the engine bay
- Foamy or discoloured power steering fluid
- Steering assistance that drops out or feels weak
- Hoses that look swollen, cracked or damp
If the steering suddenly becomes heavy, unresponsive or unpredictable, pull over when it is safe, stop driving and call for assistance rather than continuing the trip.
What the workshop can assess
Before rebuilding a pump or hose, the workshop confirms it is the actual cause.
- Pump noise, output and seal condition
- Pulley and drive belt condition, where fitted
- High- and low-pressure hoses, crimps and fittings
- Reservoir, cap and return lines
- Fluid level and condition
Repair, rebuild or replace?
Whether a component can be repaired or rebuilt depends on what the inspection finds: wear inside the housing, damage to sealing surfaces and the availability of parts all decide it. If a rebuild is not the right answer for your component, the workshop will explain why and talk you through the alternatives before any work goes ahead.
Steering pump & hose repairs: common questions
Something else? Contact the workshop
Is a whining pump always a failed pump?
Not always. Low fluid, air in the system, a restricted hose or a slipping belt can make a pump whine. The workshop checks these before recommending a rebuild.
Can you repair the hose instead of replacing it?
Often a hose can be repaired or rebuilt, depending on its construction and fittings. The workshop will advise once it has been inspected.
Should I flush the fluid as well?
Contaminated fluid can wear new parts, so fluid condition is checked as part of the job. The workshop will tell you if a flush is recommended.
